All you have to do is Google “DIY taxes” and watch how many ads and sites will appear to get you started.

You can do them yourself; use tax software or an online program; visit a tax preparer in person or virtually; or get help from a CPA or enrolled agent. There are many levels of support and costs depending on the complexity of your situation.

But if you aren’t savvy in tax language and tax code knowledge, is it really free?
